Round Tapered Columns |
|
|
|
Round tapered columns have a history
rooted deeply in the architecture of the Ancient Greeks. Known
as the Doric order, they existed as early as the seventh century
BC. In the original Greek version, Doric columns were placed on
flat pavement with no base and were topped by a smooth capital.
The Paestum temples in southern Italy are an early example of
the Doric order of tapered round columns. The Temple of Hephaestus
in Athens, which was built around 449 BC, is also a classic example
of the Doric order.
Today round tapered columns can be used both inside and outside
the home. A common place is on a porch or patio. They communicate
a message of both strength and elegance to the architecture of
the home.
Made of Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer, round tapered columns are
manufactured to withstand the elements of the exterior or fit nicely
inside the home offering an exquisite appearance that will impress
any visitor. The style’s may be fluted or smooth and a variety
of capitals are available to adorn the top of the shafts. |
