Square Non-Tapered
Raised Panel |
|
Stemming from architecture
common to the 1900’s, the square non-tapered column is made
attractive because of its uniform thickness, top to bottom. While
the tapered design narrows at the columns top, bottom, or both,
this strong and stately non-tapered column is a structural element
that brings its statuesque presence to any building front. But
the columns are also popular for interior design. From residential
to public properties, this column adds an Arts and Crafts elegance
and historic feel to modern architecture.
Raised-panel shafts add
detail to plain square columns, setting them apart from the plain-sided
or fluted (striped) models. This column is sleek, and yet it makes
a statement. And the statement is a lasting one when ordered in
durable PVC, aluminum, or fiberglass-reinforced polymers—the “new” wood—which
keeps it from damage due to splitting or cracking. These new materials
have the appearance and feel of stone. With hollow centers, the
columns can hide and store wiring or plumbing, adding function
to fashion. Also of interest to home repair gurus: the PVC non-tapered
raised panel column can be installed quickly and simply with tools
any carpenter has.
These columns are typically available in heights
of 4 to 10 feet, and with bases from 6 to 12 inches. |
